Beaded valance designs for windows and doorways

A beaded valance is often the easiest beaded piece to sell. It dresses the top of a window or a doorway without covering it, it suits renters who cannot change their curtains, and it fits a much wider range of rooms than a full-length curtain. For a buyer it also has practical advantages: fewer beads, a lower price point, smaller cartons and less weight to ship. We make beaded valances to order for retailers, brands and hospitality projects.

Edge shapes: scalloped and fringed

The bottom edge is what gives a valance its personality, and it is set by the length of each strand.

Scalloped edge: strand lengths rise and fall in repeating curves, so the hem forms a row of soft arches.

Pointed or swag edge: strands step down to points or dip into a central swag.

Fringed edge: strands end at even lengths, sometimes finished with a longer drop bead, for a straight, swinging fringe.

Pattern bands: a band of motifs near the top, such as flowers or waves, with plain strands below.

Every strand length is written on the colour-count sheet, so each valance in the order has exactly the same edge.

Beaded window valance construction

A beaded window valance is built like a curtain, only shorter. Strands are strung by hand to the colour-count sheet and fixed to a wooden dowel or rod. The standard top is a wooden dowel; if you want a fabric header, tell us and we will confirm it on the sample. The beads can be acrylic dyed to your colour, glass from our own furnaces, wood, or faux capiz discs for a shell-look fringe.

Short beaded curtain or valance?

Buyers use both terms, and the line between them is the drop. A valance usually covers the top part of a window or doorway, while a short beaded curtain may run a third or half of the way down, for example across a kitchen window or a cabinet opening. Both are made the same way. Tell us the window or door it is meant for and we will suggest a drop that looks right and keeps the bead count in check.

Beaded curtains for windows: what to specify

Width: the window or rod width, and whether the valance should sit inside or outside the frame.

Drop: the longest strand, and the shortest if the edge is shaped.

Edge: scalloped, pointed, swag or straight fringe.

Header: wooden dowel, or a fabric header if you need one.

Colours: with a Pantone reference or physical chip.

Quantity per colourway and your packing requirements.

Why valances work for wholesale

Price: height is one of the main cost levers, so a valance reaches a lower retail price than a full curtain in the same design.

Colourways: a valance is a low-risk way to test a palette before committing to full-length curtains.

Freight: shorter strands mean smaller, lighter cartons.

Range building: a valance and a full-length curtain in the same design can sit side by side on the shelf.

Shortening a valance can take real money out of the bead count, so if a design lands above target, the drop is the first thing we look at with you.

Where beaded valances sell

Bedroom and kids room ranges, kitchen and window decor, dorm and rental-friendly decor, café and boutique windows, and event styling where a fringe is hung across a bar, a stage or a photo wall.

Care and packing

Valances are short, so they tangle less than full curtains, but strands should still be kept in order on the rod when stored. Packing follows your carton and label specification, and samples are usually ready in 16 to 20 days.

Good to Know

Questions buyers ask about beaded valances

What edge shapes can a beaded valance have?

Scalloped, pointed, swag or straight fringe. Strand lengths are set on the colour-count sheet, so every piece matches.

Can a valance have a fabric header?

Tell us at the brief stage and we will confirm it on the sample; the standard top is a wooden dowel.

Is a beaded valance cheaper than a full curtain?

Usually, because height is a major cost lever and a valance uses far fewer beads.

Can you make a short beaded curtain for a kitchen window?

Yes. Give us the window width and the drop you want and we will propose a design.

Can a valance match a full-length curtain in the same design?

Yes. We can develop both from one colour-count sheet so they sell as a pair.
